The Brief
Our client asked us to give her compact country kitchen a modern makeover, with extra storage and the addition of a breakfast bar. She wanted to retain her existing range cooker.
The Design
The existing U-shaped layout featured the cooker as the main focal point in the middle of the rear wall. The focus for the new design was on making the best use of all of the remaining space.
Lisa used the full height of the room and added double wall units throughout. This created lots of valuable storage by making use of previously dead space. Taking the clean lines of the simple slab doors up to ceiling height on both sides of the room gives an illusion of space by drawing the eye up. The wall units are set out to create symmetry and balance on both sides of the kitchen. We also added identical recesses for trays & chopping boards either side of the range.
We created a new housing above the range cooker for a cleverly concealed extractor hood.
For the kitchen furniture our client chose a slab door with integral handles in classic matt white, paired with a soft white Dekton worktop. The bright and streamlined look is contrasted with a midnight blue metro tiled splash-back which ties in with the darker tone of the range cooker and flooring.
The walls and ceiling are painted plain matt white to match the kitchen furniture. Using a single colour throughout the kitchen helps to visually expand the room.
The new breakfast bar adds a much needed expanse of worktop, and has space for a couple of tall stools for casual meals and entertaining.
LED under cabinet lighting was added under the wall cupboards, and we added extra power sockets and replaced the ceiling lighting with downlights.
The new kitchen is light, airy and feels much more spacious, even though it has more cabinets! Our client is delighted with the end result.
