Large Family Bathroom Transformation

Our client wanted to modernise their spacious family bathroom, which is mainly used by visitors, including some elderly relatives. They wanted a large walk in shower with step free access, and plenty of storage for guest towels and toiletries. The existing décor was tired and dated, and they were looking for a modern, streamlined style, free from clutter and with a timeless neutral colour palette.

The starting point for the new design was replacing the existing bath and adjoining small enclosed shower with a generously sized rectangular shower enclosure. To ensure older guests were catered for, we specified an anti-slip shower tray, along with a folding shower seat and a grab bar. Access to the shower was made simple with a low profile tray which was fitted on the floor without a step up, and 2 simple fixed glass panels were used to create an easy walk in entrance. The shower controls and 2 niches for shampoo bottles were recessed in a newly constructed stud wall. One of the niches was set at a suitable height for visitors using the shower seat.

The standalone pedestal basin and toilet were replaced by a run of cabinets incorporating a large wall hung basin unit and a back to wall toilet with a concealed cistern. The pipework to the basin and WC was all hidden. Handle-less push to open drawers and doors completed the new streamlined look.

Storage was further improved with a double cabinet and open shelving for guest towels built into the recess to the right of the airing cupboard.

The single ceiling pendant light was replaced with LED downlights, and ambient lighting was added to the shower niches and beneath the vanity unit.

Our client chose a harmonious palette of pale silver grey and white. All of the finishes are matt, which enhances the softness of the colour scheme, as there are minimal shiny reflective surfaces in the room.
